During your carefree strolls to the lovely alleys, head to the Old Town that lies on the northern side, among the new fortress and the Esplanade Square. The Old Town is a UNESCO world heritage site, while the square is the largest in the Balkans. Comprising the French garden architecture, the Spianada Square -as it’s called by the locals- features a broad range of trees and flowers where you can enjoy laid-back moments. The inspiring setting also displays austere buildings, monuments and an old Venetian fortress which set the boundary for the beginning of the modern town.

Built during the French occupation, Liston building is a landmark edifice that adorns the western side of the Esplanade. Drawing from Paris’ Rue de Rivoli, the arched terrace resembles brilliantly the French architectural influences. There you can find little cafes to rest after a long day of sightseeing.
